Kendall Bergstrom-Delancellotti

Kendall Bergstrom-Delancellotti grew up in Beaverton and Portland but some of her most formative lessons came on weekends in Central Oregon when she was young. Her father taught his children to be self-sufficient in the mountains: on skis, on trails, and in the woods, and he built a family home in Camp Sherman along a feeder creek leading to the Metolius River. There she learned to see nature through his eyes: patient, reverent, and full of wonder. It is still the place she feels most like herself.

Her love of children’s books took root in literature classes at UCLA and deepened years later, curled up with her own three children finding pure joy in the rhythms and adventures of Goodnight Moon, Where the Wild Things Are, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Blueberries for Sal, and The Runaway Bunny.

Hello Sun grew from walks along the Metolius, where her family spent countless days, and along the Willamette near home. It arrived during a season of life when she slowed down and began noticing small wonders again. She still seeks the calm of rivers and streams and says yes to adventure whenever it calls.

Kendall lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon where her mornings still begin much like the book does: with gratitude, curiosity and a deep fondness for the world outside.
